'Alah', is a word used in the Old Testament Bible, signifying a curse [or signifying an 'oath of covenant'].
A curse placed upon the 'earth' [a curse placed upon mankind, 'Adamah' is Hebrew for earth [muck] ].

The book of Genesis tells us that after God created man [who is formed of the earth], man received God's blessing.
Man was first blessed, then later cursed, after man's disobedience to God's law.
Through man's transgression of God's law, the earth [mankind] was cursed [cursed, not for eating an 'apple', but through man's wickedness].
The Genesis story is allegorical [at the very least!] i believe.

Man is a spiritual transgressor.
Through God's plan of spiritual atonement, man is redeemed - if man so chooses [to accept God's atonement gift].
