Garratt Steam Coupling

When I built my free lance Garratt I faced the problem of
lack of space for steam hoses and I also prefered to have
copper rigid pipes for high pressure steam.I sat for a
while looking at it thinking how can I do it .The idea of
passing the steam through the centre of the couplings
came to my mind, hence the design below which I gave to
John Comming who publlished it in the AME a few years
ago .
REGULATOR FOR FIVE INCH GAUGE

I designed this regulator for medium size 5" G
engines and used it on few locomotivess
successfully .It is suitable for dome installation only
in as is drawn.
I have used this regulator on C36 in the smoke box
by installing it horizontally and repositioning steam
inlet and outlet for external control rod .
I have also used it on Z13 7.25" G by multipling all
sizes by 1.4 .
As long as proportions are kept witin reason this
unit can be made in any size .
