The New England Writers' Centre Incorporated (NEWC) opened in 1994. NEWC is assisted by the NSW Government through Arts NSW
The Centre is located in Armidale but serves the whole of the New England region extending from Wee Waa in the west to Bellingen in the east, and from Tamworth in the south to Tenterfield in the north.
The New England Writers' Centre brings the best writers to the New England region in northern New South Wales for readings, forums and workshops.
Our aims and objectives include:
- Promoting writing and reading by hosting readings, seminars, workshops, tours.
- Running a broad program of events, bringing the best authors in all genres to the region, as well as other writing professionals such as editors, publishers, agents.
- Showcasing the work of local writers in our newsletter, on the website, in anthologies and in festivals.
- Lobbying for improvements and developing new opportunities in the culture of writing in Australia through our membership of NSW LitLink, the network of writers centres in NSW.
