Spybot Search and Destroy Malware Detection and Removal
(Version 1.5.2) There are four options on this page.
A Machine without Spybot
First, lets click this link and select save. Save it in a place you will easily find later (To the desktop).

Now, open My Computer or whichever method you prefer to navigate to your download. It is easiest to locate if the file is downloaded to your desktop.
Double click the download (Called spybotsd152.exe).
Select English, Next, Accept the Disclaimer and Next. Accept the default install location, Full installation (If you do not have internet access, deselect the Download updated immediately option and refer to the Spybot needing manual updates section) and Default name for the new item on your start menu.
Accept the default options (Check boxes) and click install. ( I usually deselect the Tea timer as it gets annoying, it is a real-time Malware protection tool).
Once it is done, leave the check box selected to run Spybot and click finish.
Click past the warning about removing Malware.
When the Wizard appears, Create a registry backup, Search for updates, Download all available updates, immunize your system and finally click to start using the software.
Click Search and destroy from the side bar menu (The icon) and the check for problems button. This will take some time to run and will slow down your PC. It is looking for all kinds of Malware (Adware, Spyware, Dialers, Cookies, Trojans, key loggers etc)
Once this is done, you will get a report of the Malware found. Read the information in the side bar for each one (Do this by clicking the arrow tool bar on the right hand side of the screen). Now click fix selected problems. Generally, the fixes will not cause you any issues. If Malware is running in memory and Spybot can not remove it, it will ask if it can run at next startup. Please say yes.
Now, you need to scan your system for viruses. As some Malware will render antivirus useless, please use an online scanning system for the most reliable results.
I recommend Trend Micro
Housecall. Spybot already installed If you already have Spybot installed, double click the
icon for the tool and start it. From the side menu, click update, then search for updates, in the
update area, right click, select all. Click download updates. (You can also
download Beta updates) If the update fails (Due to corruption or the server
being to busy to give you the file), click the server name icon and change
to another server and attempt the download updates button again. The server icon looks like Once you have the updates,
click immunize, it will give you a quick report and now immunize from the
toolbar. Now run a scan as per the
previous procedure (Above)
You
now need to scan your
system for viruses. As some Malware will render antivirus useless, please
use an online scanning system for the most reliable results.

Updates If you can not get internet
access due to internet issues (
If you are installing Spybot 1.5.2 for the first time, please install it without the updates and then run them afterwards from your media disk (USB, CD etc) once you have downloaded them.

From the Spybot site you can also download Spybot for your phone and PDA

I recommend Trend Micro Housecall. I also recommend you use Spybot at least once a month, if not weekly.
Note: The latest Trend Micro products prefer if you do not have Spybot installed. If you install any of their products, please uninstall Spybot. Trend includes anti Malware within their products.
