Mickyj.com is a place for me to blog,
link and learn. My subjects are many and varied. Previously this was a
site dedicated to Microsoft SBS server and that will always be my
primary love. I was Microsoft Most Valuable Professional for 5 years,
the APAC chairman for the Global IT Community Association (GITCA) and
also a winner of the SMB 150 for 2012 and 2013. I own my own IT business
(Business Technology Partners) and my new love include computer
forensics, writing code and tracking, disassembling Malware. I have been
a paid author, a programmer, a systems builder and more. Some of my
favorite topics will make it to this site.
This site will also include links to my
hobbies including Astrophotography and normal photography. I have been a
paid photographer and love to explore various aspects of photography.
I love to dig into the "unusual" in
photography including Light painting, UV, IR, HDR, Long exposure, Macro
and more. I love creating tools to help me get the perfect photo.
My main two unique photo techniques are working
with UV and Light painting. You can check out my photos on Flickr and
watch my UV discussions on Youtube. You can read about making your own
Light painting tools from some of the posts on my blog.
I work with the Trend Micro antiviral research
team and through my business, Business Technology Partners, we have
managed to find and pull apart many brand new viruses. We are trying to
make a difference. I am signed up with Virustotal and Malwr and actively
perform forensics on malware in our test lab.
I started writing code in DOS and Vax/VMS Pascal systems, moved to Unix/Linux C
and then Visual basic. Lately it has been C++ and Assembly. More
recently I have been writing very small tools for monitoring servers and
devices. If you need some code written, give me an email. I might be
able to help.
The tools I use
allow me to cheaply monitor servers and I am planning to allow the
general public use of the tools, for a small fee. Let me know what sort
of tools you would like and how much you would consider paying. Help me
work out what people need and want.
Why did I originally create Mickyj.com?
my early travels with a Microsoft Product called Small Business Server.
It came out of the ashes of my previous website "MichaelsWorld" which
was all about HTML scripting. I lost interest in this and had moved into
Business server seemed like one software product however to be able to administer
it, you needed to look after the attached clients. This is both the physical
computers and devices attached, and people, their home computers and
This meant skills with
Microsoft Office, desktop operating systems (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8),
mobile phones and
anything else you can think of. I feel that this was the best
introduction into IT you could get. I still feel SBS was a perfect
product and exposes IT people to many technologies.
This website contains my old blog (links
to my new one), which has hints and tricks from my daily life in IT, software
reviews, product pages and Anti Malware tools.
I look at everything from
Media Centre PC's, Microsoft based smart phones, latest technology to
community links and where to get more help.
Specifically dealing with
Small Business Server, I still have pages with reference to Microsoft Server,
Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint Team Services (WSS),
PowerShell, Microsoft ISA server, Microsoft CRM, Using Active Directory,
Wsus and much more.
Looking at the huge numbers of hits this
page still gets in 2015, I think a lot of this information is still
After 5 years, I retired from the
MVP system. In 2012 and 2013 I was awarded a position
in the SMB150 list.
Please feel free to drop me a note and tell me what you like or hate about
I am building this for you, my readers.
I help people through the online newsgroups however I receive many emails directed to me from this site
and this is my main focus. I do not have all the answers. There are people out there with much more information and experience than I. I plan to put people in touch with the right person for the right question.
I will also post my adventures in I.T. and in general. I was a member of the South
Australian SBS users group (Now SMBitPro) and have occasionally attend the ADNUG
MSDN .Net group in South Australia. I was the the APAC Chairman for GITCA.
The links for these will be on my resource page.
You will find tools and URL links in the Mickyj Blogs. If you need something, email me or scan the Mickyj blogs.

Where can you find me?
You will see me online in
numerous Newsgroups/Forums. I previously stuck with mainly SBS (Microsoft Small Business
Server) related material. I work with Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft ISA,
Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Server,

You will find me online in Technet.
Now I am digging more into Malware and forensics so you
will find me in Malware forums.
