Matta House Kadina S.A.
As long as I can remember I have always admired the Matta house as an icon of the Kadina heritage. I have always wanted the opportunity to take a photo of this great icon. Now that the National Trust of Kadina has installed a large fence to protect the Matta house, I organized a visit with the local Trust. It was about 6:30pm; the sun had just set, but the sky still had a bright bluish sunset glow about it. This made it hard to capture the detail I was looking for. There was also a full moon in the sky that night which lessened the brightness of the stars. All the elements were against me. I wanted to try and capture a different approach to other pictures that have been taken of the Matta House, and also include the picket fence, which is so common to the Miners’ Cottages. Using the moonlight and a torch I tried to bring out all the detail of the Matta House, especially the traditional English Garden.
