What is ADSL2 and ADSL2+ ?
ADSL2 is the latest ADSL technology to be rolled out by Telcos in Australia. ADSL2 is similar to standard ADSL in that it runs on your standard copper telephone wires. This enhanced broadband offers far higher higher speed data than standard ADSL. Speeds up to 12 Mbps (Megabits per second) are possible on ADSL2 and speeds up to 24 Mbps are possible on ADSL2+. The actual ADSL2 speed a customer gets is dependant on the physical distance from the telephone exchange, the quality and age of the copper wire, and the router or modem the customer is using. If you are within 1.5 kilometres from your local telephone exchange you will be likely to get the full 24 Mbps speed. Most people will get less than the top theoretical speeds but they will still get a vast improvement on standard broadband.
Why is ADSL2 and ADSL2+ so good?
The fast speeds now available allow so much more rich internet content. Quality video conferencing, large downloads, large uploads, are possible via ADSL2 and ADSL2+. These technlogies are improving rapidly meaning that more and more customers can get high definition TV and Video on demand.
