Beau Rides the Great Ocean Road

Some of the Twelve Apostles

Day 4 - Glenaire to Port Campbell (cont'd)

The flat countryside is deceptive, because it hides the bloody great drop to the sea. Nearing Port Campbell, I reached the Twelve Apostles. I knew I was close because of the helicopters buzzing around on overflight tours.

The Twelve Apostles really are spectacular and worth visiting - just ask the 800 or so people who were there with me - bus loads of 'em. Seriously tho', I did enjoy it. It was actually a fine day, but the waves were pretty big, it must be amazing to be there in a storm.

There are a bunch of other features to look at too, caves that boom every time a wave rolls into them and little beaches in the clefts and gorges gouged out by the sea. Down on the beaches looking out to sea, you feel like you are beneath the tops of the waves.

This was the one and only time I had any trouble with the bike, a flat tire, which I noticed as I started to ride off. Funnily, watching someone struggling with a bike wheel and tire must be intensely interesting, because a number of people took the opportunity to come over and ask me about my ride. Perhaps they were amazed that such an inept bike mechanic had made it so far.
