Halfway between Anglesea and Lorne is Airey's Inlet and Split Point which is famous for the lighthouse which has been used as
a location for a children's TV show on the ABC. Ralph had told me about this, but as it involved a turn-off from my route I'd
said I wouldn't bother - when you're cylcling, each detour comes at a price. Once I got near it, though, I decided to take a
look. The road was very steep, but the view from the point was pretty good.
13 km out from Lorne, the road twisted and climbed steeply to Cinema Point where the view was even better followed by a very
steep descent.
Once in Lorne, I left my stuff in the hostel and went for a swim at the town's beach. This is the site of well known ocean-swim,
"the pub to pier". I know that we like to boast about the beaches in Perth, but the Lorne beach is just beautiful. Maybe I was just
lucky with the weather, but the waves were great for body surfing. With it being school holidays, the beach and town were very
crowded. My cycle-guide calls Lorne a smart coastal resort town and that's what it is, think Subiaco on the beach.
