After breakfast in a cafe, I started riding at about 8:30am. The first half of the trip was through the sand dunes and scrub
between Queenscliff and Torquay. The road was mostly flat and I enjoyed riding past the beaches. I only passed through
Torquay but it didn't look very interesting. Lots of new housing sub-divisions.
Past Torquay the road left the coast and entered a hilly region. It came back to the coast at Bell's Beach where I stopped for
a while and sat at the top of the cliff to watch the surfing and para-sailing.
From Bell's Beach the road again left the coast and climbed through an area of bush, then descended steeply to Anglesea where
I stopped for lunch at a bakery. I'd forgotten about it until I rode past, but Alcoa has a power station just inland from Anglesea.
I did wonder if Anglesea was a company town, I asked someone, but he said that the station worked with minimal labour.
Just west of Anglesea, I officially joined the Great Ocean Road. From there on, the road started to get squeezed more tightly
between the coast on the left and the hills on the right.
