Then the hard work began, promoting the breed at the cat shows and slowly breeding up to the 4th generation - it took us over 5 years to have them on the full register. It was a proud moment when Margaret Klaver & Robin Moller presented the first 4th generation litters to the NSW CFA Management Committee for assessment by three committee members, who were also Group 3 judges, and full register status was achieved. The Burmillas are now doing very well against all the Group 3 breeds, getting in the Top 5 and Best in Shows. It has been a challenge for us over the years, but very rewarding to see what beautiful, friendly cats we have bred and such "show stoppers".
Margaret Klaver was the first to reach 4th generation and to have the first Champion and Best in Show Burmilla in NSW. We are now allowed to include the Longhair Burmilla in our breeding program. They are also proving very popular with the public, especially since they have a non-matting coat. Two have gone to Perth WA for a breeding program. One Burmilla (shorthair) has gone to Denmark to give them a new line to work with, as they are not allowed to use Chinchillas again but are allowed to use Burmese to outcross to.
Since 1996 we have had a few breeders retire and some new breeders join us. Max. Russell, Rae Auland and Lorraine Burgess have retired. Lyn Varney, Norlyn, joined us in 1999.
Norlyn Tarlia, Val Grayston's brown shaded Burmilla spay is the NSW CFA 4th Group 3 Desexed Kitten of the Year for 2002, which is a great thrill for all of us.
We are always looking for more people to join our small dedicated group to show and breed Burmillas.
Our motto is "Love at First Sight" - for two reasons:
1. The original Burmese and Chinchilla Persian in 1981 started the whole idea of "Burmillas".
2. When people see Burmillas they always comment on their beauty and fall in love with them.
