Intermediate to Advanced

 Written for PSP 9

 

What you will need

Tube of Choice  

 Needle Tube - Download Here

Wooden Pattern Here

 

Here is a arrow you can drag and drop when you need to mark where you are. .
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
It will stay where ever you put it, until you close your browser.

 

 

Step1

 

 

 Open your Tube Duplicate (Shift D) and close the original.

Resize your tube so that it's no bigger than 400 on any side. 

Open your wooden pattern and Needle tube and put them aside for now.

 

Step2

 

Open New transparent image 450 X 450 pixels.

Flood Fill it with white.

Copy your tube and paste as a new layer.

If you would like to add text now is the time to do so.

Please Note ; If your going to add the Wooden Hoop it may be better not to add text.

Layers / Merge / Merge Visible

 
Step 3
 
Effects / Plugins / Alien Skin Eye Candy 5 Textures - weave
with the following:
 
 
Step 4
 
Using your Freehand Selection tool
with the following settings:
 
Select the top part of your image so it looks something like this
 
 
Step 5
 
Selections / Promote Selections to Layer
 
Effects / 3D Effects / Drop Shadow
with the following:
 
Selections / Select None
 
Step 6
 
Activate your Bottom layer
Adjust / Brightness & Contrast / Brightness/Contrast
 
 
Step 7
Adding the Wooden Hoop.
If you did not want to add the hoop go to step 11
 
Layers / Merge Merge Visible
Layers / New Raster Layer
 
Using your Selection Tool
with the following settings:
 
Draw a circle like this
 
In your Colour Pallet set your Foreground to pattern and choose the wood pattern
 
Flood Fill the Middle of the circle with the wood pattern
 
Step 8
Selections / Modify / Contract 10
Press your delete key on the keyboard.
Selections / Select None.
 
Effects / 3D Effects / Inner Bevel
with the following:
 
If all goes well you should now something like this...
 
Step 9
Make sure you are still on the the top layer and
select your Magic wand with these settings:
 
Select the Inner part of the hoop like this
 
Now Activate the bottom layer and apply the following Inner Bevel.
 
Selections / Select None
 
Step 10
 
Activate the top Layer again and using the magic wand with
the same settings as before select the outside of the hoop area like this
 
Layers / Merge / Merge Visible
Effects / Plugins / Alien Skin Xenofex 2 - Crumple,
with the following:
 
Selections / Select None
Layers / New Raster Layer
Flood fill this layer with white.
Layers / Arrange / Send to Bottom
 
 
 Step 11
 
Layers / Merge / Merge Visible
Copy the needle tube and paste as a new layer.
Image / Rotate / Free Rotate (use mine or your own setting)
 
Now move your needle into a nice spot on your image.
 
Step 12
 
Layers / New Raster Layer
 
Using your eye dropper choose a colour on your image so that we can make a thread hanging of your needle.
 
Using your paint brush tool
with the following settings:
 
(You may like to Zoom in for this step)
paint a squiggly line from were you picked your colour and make it go over the hole in the needle like this
 
 
Step 13
 
Using your eraser
 
Zoom up very close to the hole in the needle
Erase part of the thread so that it looks like the thread is going through the needle.
 
Making sure your still on the top layer,
you may wish to draw another thread somewhere else in another colour.
 
Step 14
 
Effects / 3D effects / Inner Bevel
with the following:
 
Layers / Merge / Merge All Flatten
If you do not want to add a Frame you can now
add your watermark and save as a .Jpg
File / Export / Jpeg Optimizer
and set compression to 25.
 
Adding a Frame
As my first Example
 
Image / Add Borders
10 pixels in a nice medium dark colour from your image.
Selections / Select all
Selections / Modify / Contract 10
Selections / Invert
Effects / 3D Effects / Inner Bevel
with the following:
 
Selections / Select None
 
That's it !
Add your watermark.
File / Export / Jpeg Optimizer
and set compression to 25.
