I guess
I'm the male equivalent to her, as she is fascinated by the supernatural
and is generally out of the ordinary in her looks and in her character.
She is quite pretentious, especially for a teenage girl, and upon meeting
and chatting with two ghosts in her house she replies "I too am of the
strange and unusual". She is very open minded about ghosts and the afterlife
etc, and is not as much frightened by them as she is deeply intrigued.
Lydia is quiet and seems to prefer her own company, even if that means
keeping out of her parents' sight. I can relate to that as I love to just
hide away with some music and a good book at times. She only ever wears
black clothing in the movie, and I also prefer dark colours to lighter
shades when it comes to fashion, as, like Lydia, I like coming across as
mysterious and slightly withdrawn rather than completely laid bare and
open, because that way I keep people guessing and wanting to find out more
about me. Despite the darkness surrounding her aura, she does not appear
to be an unhappy girl, she is just a sensitive person, in an insensitive,
harsh environment, rather like myself.

Here is a lady in her own flourishing garden, in which she has worked hard and thoughtfully, putting visions into action. Purple grapes hang rich and full around her. She is alone, but not lonely. She owns her own property. Her cottage opens onto the wide, lush garden. At night she writes about meaning in life, living well and ethically. She writes poetry, sometimes paints or works on a new design for her garden. She has many friends and holds dinners that go long into the night with witty interesting talk. She is proud, intelligent, poised but kind in a dignified way. Her garden is completely her own, as is her life. No one tells her what to do or when to do it. She does not need men, but enjoys their company occasionally. |
