Italian nun shot dead in
Somalia
Gunmen have shot dead a
65-year-old Italian nun and her bodyguard at a hospital in Somali
capital, Mogadishu.
The attackers shot the nun three times in the back at the women
and children's hospital in the south of the city before fleeing the
scene.
It is unclear if the shooting is connected with strong criticism by a
radical Somali cleric about the Pope's recent comments on Islam.

Iran warns of revenge over Israel
Iran's president has warned that Muslims around
the world will take
revenge on states which support Israel against the Palestinians.
...The "ultimatum" was directed at
European states in particular.

have advised the Europeans that
the Americans are far away, but you are the neighbours of the nations
in this region," Mr Ahmadinejad said.
"We inform you that the nations are
like an ocean that is welling up, and if a storm begins, the

Iran issues fatwa on Azeri
writer

a fatwa on an Azeri writer said to have insulted the Prophet Muhammad.
The call on Muslims to murder Rafiq
Tagi, who writes for Azerbaijan's Senet newspaper, echoes the Iranian
fatwa against Indian writer Salman Rushdie.
It was issued by the conservative
Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Fazel Lankarani.
The writings of Rafiq Tagi sparked
recent demonstrations outside the Azerbaijani embassy in the Iranian
capital, Teheran.
The Iranian media is reporting that
Grand Ayatollah Lankarani's followers inside the republic of Azerbaijan
wrote to him asking for advice about what they called "the apostate
writer".
They accuse the
Azeri writer of portraying Christianity as superior to Islam and Europe
as superior to the Middle East.

Firebomb attack at Yemen
mosque
Unidentified attackers have
fire-bombed a mosque in northern Yemen, injuring about 30 people,
officials have said.
Attackers burst
into the mosque and sprayed worshippers with petrol before setting them
alight, according to Yemen's official news agency, Saba.
Eight people had suffered serious
burns, a local official told Saba.

Deadly clashes rage in
Pakistan
At least 40 people have been killed
and dozens wounded in two days of clashes between Sunni and Shia
Muslims in north-western Pakistan, officials say.
Fighting erupted after gunmen fired
on Shias in Parachinar, about 250km (150 miles) south-west of Peshawar,
in North West Frontier province, reports say.
Authorities imposed a curfew on the
town and sent troops to restore order.
Sectarian violence has plagued
Pakistan for years with Parachinar suffering a number of Sunni-Shia

Youths
set passenger bus alight in Paris

A band of up to 30 youths forced
passengers out of a bus in a southern Paris suburb in broad daylight,
set it on fire and then stoned firefighters who came to the rescue, a
police official said.
Police cordoned off the neighbourhood
in Grigny, in the Essonne region, after the attack, which came five
days before France marks the one-year anniversary of the start of three
weeks of fiery riots by poor suburban youths.
District police chief Jean-Francois
Papineau called Sunday's bus attack "deliberate". He said the vehicle
was forced to stop at a road block at about 2 pm. Two youths then
entered the back of the bus to clear out passengers before dousing it
with petrol and setting it ablaze.
When firefighters arrived, the youths
began stoning them, he said. No-one was injured. At least one person
was arrested. The local prefecture said nearly 30 youths were involved
in the incident.

The French Interior Ministry has acknowledged
the Muslim uprising. The
ministry said more than 2,500 police officers have been injured in
2006. This amounts to at least 14 officers each day.

neighborhoods are becoming autonomous zones, with police and
government workers too scared to enter. The police union is demanding
the Interior Ministry supply officers with armored cars.
European law enforcement sources say France could be a model for other

Terrified
publishers won't print truth about Islam, says author

A distinguished writer and academic
has accused
leading publishers of turning down his latest book because it is too
critical of Islam.
David Selbourne, who has written more
than a dozen books, and his literary agent suspect that publishers are
shunning The Losing Battle With Islam because it could provoke anger
from Islamic extremists and
other critics.
Among the subjects covered in the
book is the "negative impact" of actions by Muslims in recent decades. It suggests
that Islam is not a religion of peace, balance and compassion, as many
of its adherents claim.

The Conservatives today accuse Muslim
leaders of encouraging "voluntary apartheid" in Britain by shutting themselves away in
closed societies and demanding protection from criticism.
David Davis, the shadow home
secretary, says that Britain risks social
and religious divisions so profound that society's very foundations,
such as the freedom of speech, will become "corroded" and that
the
perfect conditions for home-grown terrorism will be created.
...Mr Davis says he supports the
stance on veils adopted by Jack Straw, the Commons Leader, but believes
the wider issue is one of the "very unity of our nation".
"What Jack touched on was the fundamental issue of whether,
in Britain, we are developing a divided society. Whether we are creating a series of closed
societies within our open society. Whether we are inadvertently
encouraging a kind of voluntary apartheid.
"At the starkest level, we may be
creating conditions in the recesses of our society that foster
home-grown terrorism."
Mr Davis's comments follow a series
of events that highlight the
reluctance among some Muslims to integrate fully into British society.
Aishah Azmi, a 24-year-old teaching assistant, is taking legal action because her
school in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, asked her to remove her veil in
front of children. Madani
High School, an Islamic school in Leicester, is ordering its non-Muslim
girls to wear headscarves.

There are some issues that are so
explosive they are only capable of being resolved if they are handled
coolly and analytically. These are the unexploded bombs of modern
politics and 10 days ago Jack Straw detonated one of them with his
comments on the use of the veil by Muslim women.
....At its very least, there is a growing feeling that
the Muslim community is excessively sensitive to criticism, unwilling
to engage in substantive debate. Much worse is the feeling of some Muslim leaders
that as a community they should be protected from criticism, argument,
parody, satire and all the other challenges that happen in a society
that has free speech as its highest value.

Ministers appear whimsically to be
shifting from the multi-cultural society towards an integrated one.
They are whistling in the dark if they think that will play well with
the followers of Islam in our midst. Muslims are rooted in their faith
and it governs the way they live. It is the only faith on Earth that
persuades its followers to seek
political power and impose a law — sharia — which shapes
everyone's style of life.
For some years now, I have been close
to events in Sudan, north and south, on behalf of this newspaper. I
find the power of Khartoum awesome. It defies the world over Darfur and
will continue to do so. It
has reduced Sudan to ruin in an interminable civil war, the mainspring
of which was Khartoum's insistence on
sharia for the Christian or animist south.

Hate
videos of Muslim group they failed to ban

A Muslim organisation which the
Government chose not to ban is preaching hatred and has infiltrated the
Home Office, an investigation has revealed.
Hizb ut-Tahrir is showing
inflammatory videos to small groups of followers then encouraging
them
to attack non-believers.
An HuT member has gained a job as an
information technology worker in the Immigration and Nationality
Directorate of the Home Office and been given a grant to organise an
event for the radical group, it has been claimed in an undercover
investigation by Vigil, a group campaigning against religious extremism.
....."They tell you that they are
allowed to hurt the kuffar,
do whatever they want if they feel like it and they'd say, 'let's go out
and beat someone up and take their money.'
......Patrick Mercer, Conservative security spokesman, said of the
investigation, screened last night on BBC2's Newsnight: "We need
legislation that allows us to deal with these groups in whatever guise
they appear.
.....Although the group claims
it is non-violent, their website
advocates the introduction of shariah law and adds: "We begin
fighting the enemy even if he did not start fighting us."
Last
night the group said in a
statement: "We
do not advocate or otherwise promote the use of violence or any
criminal activity against civilians in the UK or anywhere else in the
world."

The roots of Islamism

Islamists believe in the
re-ordering of society to secure total submission to a narrow, puritan
and fundamentalist interpretation of Islam. They are conducting
a civil war within the Islamic world designed to overthrow existing
regimes, which they consider to be unforgiveably apostate, and
replace
them with a single and unified Muslim state, the restored Caliphate.
Islamists believe that the sanctity and culture of Muslim lands are
menaced and defiled by Western influences, from capitalism to feminism,
which have to be eradicated.
That cleansing process must be
accomplished by suicidal violence, because, in the words of Islamism's most
influential thinker, Sayyid Qutb, "the death of
those who are killed
for the cause of God gives more impetus to the cause, which continues
to thrive on their blood."
The bloodshed should not stop at
Islam's current borders. Not just because those nations
which are unIslamic constitute dar-al Harb, the House of War,
which constantly threatens the security of the Muslim world. But also
because Islamists
are driven
by a divine mission to ensure the whole earth, in due course, learns to
submit to Islamist rule.
The
belief that Islam's
sovereignty over the whole globe is necessary and total was
powerfully
displayed on BBC TV's Newsnight in February 2006. Anjem Choudray, one
of the leaders of the UK Islamist group al-Ghurabaa, rejected the
suggestion that he might be happier pursuing his fundamentalist
approach to religion and politics outside the secular and liberal
political culture of the UK. England,
he informed the viewers, "belongs to Allah".

"jahiliyyah." jahiliyyah

any government which does not follow God’s divine guidance. For Qutb,
in the final analysis, each of these regimes is fundamentally the same
because they ignore God’s authority over man and his actions. By
ignoring God’s revelation, man rebels "against the sovereignty of God
on earth."15 Qutb sees the world in black and white. There are
Islamic societies and jahili societies. Islamic societies live the true
life, submitting to God and completely conforming to his divine
guidance in all matters. Meanwhile, jahili societies ignore God’s
guidance and submit to man-made laws and conform to man-made ways of
life.
.....Qutb argues that obedience to
any man-made government and its laws is to worship the same men who
created it. Thus, a true Muslim would be rejecting his God by
submitting to a jahili government......."For a certainty, God does not
forgive that partners should be associated with Him, but He forgives
any lesser sin to whomever He wills. He who associates partners with
God has indeed gone far astray" (Qur’an 4:16).
Qutb argues that the false gods of a Muslim in the
United States would be the President, Congress, Supreme Court, and the
Constitution which empowers them. Although he may not
consciously consider them to be his gods, a Muslim cannot serve God alone if
he acknowledges the authority of such jahili institutions.

severe criticism following the Forest Gate raid for its intelligence
failures in the fight against terrorism. But the biggest failure of all
in the battle against Islamist extremism has gone practically unnoticed.
...Proof of the British State’s
institutional weakness came directly in the aftermath of the 7/7
bombings. At the Prime
Minister’s behest the Home Office established a series of working
groups to tackle the threat of Islamic extremism. A variety of individuals were
appointed whose past statements or current affiliations made them very curious conscripts in the struggle
against extremism.
Among those appointed was Ahmad
Thomson, a convert to Islam who has argued in the past that....Muslims are
obliged to want to live in an Islamic state.
...Given the
presence of these and others with a similar perspective on the Home
Office’s working groups, the conclusions were not that surprising. In so far as extremism was acknowledged
as a danger it was attributed to the foreign policy of Blair and Bush. And in so far
as remedial action was required, it seemed, again and again, to consist
of more public money going to
exclusively Islamic bodies that would be empowered to provide more
Islamic solutions, in
accordance with appropriate Islamic principles.

Gympie in country Queensland to London in the early 1990s she thought she would find
adventure and excitement and perhaps forge new bonds with her distant
relatives.
Instead, she found herself
caught in a clash of cultures as her London-born Muslim family - in
particular, a half-brother,
Mustafa - tried to drag her under their control in the name of Islam.
Her experience reflects the collision between conservative Islam and
Western life, an issue triggered by Taj Din al-Hilali.

this, where a young man, a relative, would decide how I should live, or

Islamic centre. They basically did all the talking. They said I should not be living
away from home, that I should go with them, because I was bringing

victim's sister 'threatened for being Westernised'

The court hearing the case of a Mitcham man accused of murdering
his niece have heard he made death threats against the dead
girl's sister for being too "Westernised".
Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and Ari
Mahmod, 50, of Mitcham, deny
charges of murdering Mahmod Mahmod's daughter Banaz, 20, whose
body was found in a suitcase buried in a garden in Birmingham last
April.
Banaz's sister Bekhal Mahmod,
22, told the Old Bailey jurors that she was beaten and
called a whore and accused of being too Westernised.

'honour killing' of a girl murdered by her father for daring to kiss
the man she loved.
Here, her sister, who narrowly
escaped death herself and now lives in fear of her life, breaks her
silence.
Every time
Bekhal Mahmod leaves the safety of her home, she wears the hijab with a
black veil covering her face - even though she would give anything for
the freedom not to have to.

so-called "honour killing", have since
boasted of raping Banaz before she died in January 2006.

London honour killings 'six a year'
Honour crimes
in London are on the increase, with police recording four a week
since last summer.
They believe an honour killing
is being committed every two months in the capital, a CPS London
conference heard.
Across the
country police are reviewing the disappearances and deaths of 122 young
Asian women - 81 from London - over the past 10 years to
establish whether they were killed for bringing shame on their families.
The CPS and police will also
ask coroners throughout the country for details of cases where they
suspect that Asian women committed suicide following intimidation or
harassment.
......Delegates heard that most honour crimes in the UK involve South
Asian families but cases have also featured Middle Eastern, West
African, Turkish, Bosnian, Kosovan and Roma families.
In a keynote address, CPS London's Chief Crown Prosecutor Dru
Sharpling (below) said honour crimes
were "disgraceful" and went beyond an issue of culture.
She told the conference held in London in December: "If it is nothing
but culture it gives the crime a legitimacy that it does not deserve or
merit.
Dru Sharpling speaking at the Honour Crimes Conference."This is
primarily a crime against women. Honour crimes are crimes of
violence which contain wholesale human rights abuses."
The criminal justice system counted as nothing unless it protected the
people it served, she stressed.
"Honour crimes are corrosive and the victim deserves protection, and
the criminal law must be designed to do just that.
"And if they are not protected; if they are kept away from the agencies
that can help; if the issue is
submerged in our society, then that seems
to me to give a green light to the perpetrators."
In a
democratic society the existence of any group of individuals whom the
law could not apparently touch was unacceptable, she added.

few weeks ago she said, “Five
Kurds brutally raped a 13-year-old Swedish girl.”
In France, Samira Bellil broke her
silence – after enduring years of repeated gang rapes in one of the
Muslim populated public housing projects – and wrote a book, In the
hell of the tournantes, that shocked France. Describing how gang rape
is rampant in the banlieues, she explained to Time that, “any neighborhood girl who smokes,
uses makeup or wears attractive clothes is a whore.”

reported that in April 2005, a
9-year-old Pakistani girl was raped, beaten with a cricket bat,
hanged
upside down from the ceiling, had spoonfuls of chillies poured into her

neighbours told her they were taking revenge for the American bombing
of Iraqi children and informed her they were doing it because she was an “infidel and a
Christian.”
....In Australia, when journalist Paul Sheehan
reported honestly on the Sydney gang rapes, he was called a
racist and accused of stirring up anti-Muslim hatred. And when he
reported in his Sydney Morning Herald column that there was a high
incidence of crime amongst Sydney’s Lebanese community, fellow journalist, David Marr sent
him an e-mail stating, “That is a disgraceful column that reflects
poorly on us all at the Herald.”
Keysar Trad, vice-president of the
Australian Lebanese Muslim Association said the gang rapes were a
“heinous” crime but complained it was “rather unfair” that the
ethnicity of the rapists had been reported.
....In most French prosecutions, the Muslim rapists state that they
do not believe they have committed a crime. And in a frightening
parallel with the gang rapists in Australia, they claim the victim
herself is to blame and accuse her of being a “slut” or a “whore.”
....The number of rapes committed by
Muslim men against women in the last decade is so incredibly high that
it cannot be viewed as anything other than culturally implicit
behaviour. It is overtly reinforced and sanctioned by Islamic religious
leaders who blame the victims and excuse the rapists.
In three decades of
immigration into Western countries, Islam has caused social upheaval
and havoc in every one of its host countries. No other

So now we know the facts,
straight from the Supreme Court, that a
group of Lebanese Muslim gang rapists from south-western Sydney hunted
their victims on the basis of their ethnicity and subjected them to hours of degrading,
dehumanising torture. The
young women, and girls as young as 14, were "sluts" and "Aussie pigs",
the rapists said.
......This newspaper was
the first to report the story, which had been common knowledge in
police and media circles, and it has never censored the race element.
Even last week, with the
conviction of two brothers for their part in the gang rape of Miss D,
who was 16 when she was held at gunpoint in a Greenacre park, there
were media outlets that downplayed the story and air-brushed race from
it.

encouraging signs by the end of the week that some Muslim community
leaders were talking of "Muslims accepting responsibility that they may
have failed to do things that would have prevented these things from
happening", as Amjad Mehboob, chief executive for the Federation of
Islamic Councils, told ABC Radio on Friday.

vice-president of the Lebanese Muslim Association, said: "It is certainly
a disgrace to our community that people who were born to a
Muslim family would commit such heinous crimes." But he went on to say it was "rather

Gunfire erupts in Lebanese camp
Lebanese leaders have promised to
crush the Islamist fighters holed up in the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian
refugee camp, as fighting ended a tenuous truce.
....The Army says heavy shooting
erupted from inside the camp, near the city of Tripoli, about 3:30am
AEST and troops have returned fire.
....Tensions mounted during the day
after Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said his Government would
not surrender to terrorism, after it issued an ultimatum for the
militants to surrender or face another attack.
"We will put an end to the terrorist
phenomenon without hesitation..." he said.
"Over the past
few days, there's been a lot of talk and devious propaganda saying the
Lebanese Army or the Lebanese Government are targeting Palestinian
refugees in Lebanon.
"The truth is that Lebanese Army was
the victim of a criminal aggression perpetrated by a terrorist
organisation that pretends
to be Islamic and defending Palestine."
The Army later warned it would not
stand idle if the militants broke a cease-fire they declared on Tuesday.
"We hold Fatah al-Islam responsible
for everything that... might take place if it resumes attacks on our
positions and continues to use Palestinian civilians as human shields,"
it said in a statement.
"The Fatah al-Islam
gang is using Palestinian civilians as human shields, firing on
humanitarian convoys and has even confiscated ambulances.
"The Army is keen to protect the
lives of innocent civilians and has facilitated the evacuation of the
wounded through the Lebanese Red Cross and the Palestinian Red Cross."
Defence Minister Elias Murr flatly
ruled out negotiations to end the stand-off, raising speculation of a
new battle in the deadliest
internal fighting since the 1975-1990 civil war.

Three killed in violence in
Assam
A Congress party leader and two
civilians have been killed in separate
incidents in India's north-eastern state of Assam, police said.
Suspected rebels from the United
Liberation Front of Assam (Ulfa) broke
into Chandra Chutia's house in eastern Dibrugarh district and shot him
dead.
In Geleki, security forces shot dead
two traders and injured a third,
apparently mistaking them for rebels.

Assam's missing women and
the sex trade

The biggest problem in India's
north-eastern state of Assam is separatist militancy. But
it faces another, less well known issue. Thousands of its women, old
and young, have gone missing over the past 10 years.
A recent police report says 3,184
women and 3,840 female children have gone missing in the state since
1996.
That's around two females a day on
average.
The report was compiled by Assam
police and their research branch, the Bureau of Police Research and
Development.
The local police are far too busy,
according to Assam police intelligence chief Khagen Sarmah, fighting
insurgents.
......Professor Paula Banerjee, who
studies problems faced by displaced women, says: "Ethnic conflicts
all over the world results in massive displacement of women and that
gives rise to heavy trafficking - the situation in Assam is no
different."

to gather firewood, hoping to sell it for cash to feed their families.
Instead, they say, in a wooded area just a few hours walk away, they
were gang-raped, beaten and robbed.
......Their story, told to an
Associated Press reporter and confirmed by other women and aid workers
in the camp, provides a glimpse into the hell that
Darfur has become as the Arab-dominated government battles a
rebellion stoked by a history of discrimination and neglect.
Sudan‘s
government denies arming and unleashing the janjaweed, and bristles at the
charges of rape, saying its conservative Islamic society
would never tolerate it.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations
is demanding Congress investigate US Airway's removal last week of six
imams from one of its flights. The Muslim-rights group claims the
imams, who were behaving suspiciously, posed no threat.
It's "very,
very inappropriate to treat religious leaders that way," a
spokesman fumed.
According to
CAIR, imams are as harmless as Buddhist monks and deserve no less
respect. Tell that to flight
attendant Kimberly Banducci.
According to police reports I've obtained,
the Delta Air Lines veteran
was assaulted by a Muslim cleric in a bizarre attack aboard a
flight from Miami International Airport three years ago. The wild
scene, which involved federal air marshals and local police, was never
reported in the media.
Here's what happened: On Oct. 23, 2003, Sheikh Ahmed
Hamman Mahmoud Hamman claimed he needed assistance as he boarded
Delta Flight 1586. Banducci, who was flight coordinator that day,
escorted the Egyptian imam, dressed in a flowing robe, to his seat. As
she helped him get seated, Hamman
remarked in heavily accented English how good she smelled and asked her
name.
As
she began to recoil from the bearded man's passes, he suddenly grabbed
her face with one hand and wouldn't let go. Banducci told him he was
hurting her and asked for help from passengers in the immediate area.
She was able to pull away,
but then His Most Holiness
grabbed both her breasts and again would not release his grip. Banducci
yelled at him to let go, but he refused, squeezing even harder. Only
after she screamed for help and two air marshals broke cover did the
man back down.
As authorities questioned him, Hamman acted like he couldn't
speak any English. The Miami-Dade Police Department took him
into custody where he was booked the next day for felony battery, the
police report says. Delta did not press charges, however, and kept the
incident from the press.
....CAIR, which is listed as a partner organization to Shahin's North
American Imams Federation, insists American imams are peace-loving
"patriots."

Pak woman minister
killer says she was un-Islamic
Lahore, Feb 22: Muhammad
Sarwar, the
killer of Pakistani Punjab's woman minister Zil-e-Huma, believes
that women
cannot rule over men.
“I have no regrets. I killed her
out of the conviction that she was leading an un-Islamic life
and spreading an evil influence on other women,” Sarwar told
interrogators in custody, according to a police source.
Sarwar belongs to Ahle
Hadith, a local religious vigilante group, and had allegedly killed
four prostitutes in 2002, but was acquitted for want of evidence.
He shot the young woman
minister at her meet-the-public function, posing as a visitor last
Monday. Sarwar was irked by
her increasing popularity, sources in the Punjab Police told
Daily Times Thursday.
Police said that Sarwar
has "his own interpretation
of Islam". Sarwar told interrogators that he was fired by a passion to purge society of
women who defy Islamic customs.
Sarwar owns a hardware
shop in Gujranwala and has nine children - four sons and five
daughters. He had ordered his wife and daughters to stay at home and
veil their faces.
Slain minister Zil-e-Huma
belonged to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Qaid), was related to
Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and was a vocal supporter of
President Pervez Musharraf's liberalization drive.
Opposition to women
seeking political office has been a recurring theme in Pakistan
society. Sections of Islamic clergy had issued edicts against Benazir
Bhutto when she became country's prime minister in 1988.

How my eyes
were opened to the barbarity of Islam

Once I was held captive in Kabul. I
was the bride of a charming, seductive and Westernised Afghan Muslim
whom I met at an American college.
......When we landed in Kabul, an
airport official smoothly confiscated my US passport. “Don’t worry,
it’s just a formality,” my husband assured me. I never saw that
passport again. I later learnt that this was routinely done to foreign
wives — perhaps to make it impossible for them to leave.
.......Long before the rise of the
Taleban, I learnt not to romanticise Third World countries or to
confuse their hideous tyrants with liberators. I also learnt that
sexual and religious apartheid in Muslim countries is indigenous and
not the result of Western crimes — and that such “colourful
tribal
customs” are absolutely, not relatively, evil. Long before al-Qaeda
beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan and Nicholas Berg in Iraq, I
understood that it was dangerous for a Westerner, especially a woman,
to live in a Muslim country. In retrospect, I believe my
so-called
Western feminism was forged in that most beautiful and treacherous of
Eastern countries.
Nevertheless, Western
intellectual-ideologues, including feminists, have demonised me as a
reactionary and racist “Islamophobe” for arguing that Islam, not
Israel, is the largest practitioner of both sexual and religious
apartheid in the world and that if Westerners do not stand up to
this
apartheid, morally, economically and militarily, we will not only have
the blood of innocents on our hands; we will also be overrun by Sharia
in the West. I have been heckled, menaced, never-invited, or
disinvited
for such heretical ideas — and for denouncing the epidemic of
Muslim-on-Muslim
violence for which tiny Israel is routinely,
unbelievably scapegoated.

When will we in the 'West' learn, and accept, that ISLAM is not
a religion.

kind of behaviour [towards the un-ISLAMIC] is
normal, and to be encouraged, by the example and the
'attitude' of those who hold 'devout' convictions about 'ISLAMIC'
customs.
Again and again, the Jihadists are seen to exhort their
followers to act in violence towards [all]
that the Jihadists among us
see as, the un-ISLAMIC, in
their midst.

Documents unsealed in the Sami
Al-Arian case Thursday raise questions about an assistant U.S.
attorney's motives for requiring Al-Arian to testify before a federal
grand jury in Virginia.
Al-Arian's Tampa attorney, Jack
Fernandez, wrote that on Sept. 18 he asked Gordon Kromberg, assistant
U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, to delay Al-Arian's
transfer 30 days until after the Islamic religious holidays of Ramadan.
According to a court motion filed by
Fernandez, Kromberg responded: "If they can kill each other during
Ramadan, they can appear before the grand jury, all they can't do is
eat before sunset. I believe
Mr. Al-Arian's request is part of the attempted Islamization of the
American Justice System. I am not going to put off Dr.
Al-Arian's grand jury appearance just to assist in what is becoming the
Islamization of America."
.....In April, Al-Arian
pleaded guilty to one count of aiding the terrorist group Palestinian
Islamic Jihad with nonviolent activities. He was sentenced to 57
months in prison.

Pakistan school raid sparks anger
Funerals have been held in Pakistan
for people killed in a helicopter strike on an Islamic school
which the government says was used by militants.
There were angry scenes as they were
buried - with denunciations of Monday's attack by Islamists, who say most of the 70-80 people who
died were pupils.
But officials insist the
victims were fighters. The raid occurred in a remote tribal area
near the Afghan border.
The region is said to provide refuge for al-Qaeda and Taleban militants.
A local leader with suspected links to al-Qaeda, Faqir Mohammed,
addressed a crowd of 10,000 mourners.
"The government attacked and
killed our innocent people on orders from America," he is quoted
as saying by the Associated Press news agency.
"It is an open aggression."

Tribesmen in Pakistan have rallied
against Islamabad's alliance with the US after an air strike on an
alleged militant camp at an Islamic school.
At least 10,000 people protested in
the north-western town of Khar near the site of Monday's missile attack.
President Pervez Musharraf said the 80 people killed were
militants,
not students as protesters say.
But a raid survivor told the
Associated Press that children
had died and the
school had not been used by
militants.
'Telling lies'
In his first comments since the raid,
Gen Musharraf said those killed were "militants doing
military training".
"We were watching them for the last
six or seven days - we knew exactly who they are, what they are doing,"
he told a conference in Islamabad.
"Anyone who says that these
people were innocent [religious students] is telling lies," he said.

United Nations has temporarily suspended its activities - and closed
its offices - for two weeks in quake-affected Bagh sub-district in
Pakistani-administered Kashmir following a spate of security incidents
involving members of the humanitarian community.
.....On 1 May, a driver of a vehicle
rented by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN Habitat)
and bearing UN markings, was beaten up. On the same day two local staff
members working for the National Commission for Human Development, a
local NGO, were beaten up, and two local female staff members working
for the American Refugee Committee (ARC) who accompanied them were
arrested.
"They
were arrested for having a picnic in a public area while being unmarried," Louise Paterson, the country director
for ARC in Islamabad, told IRIN, describing the incident as a
longstanding issue with the employment of female staff.
......On Sunday, the Awami Action
Forum, a
coalition of religious groups led by a number of local religious
leaders, threatened to stop any UN or NGO vehicle carrying female
passengers and attack that vehicle, as well as the offices and
compounds where the humanitarian workers lived or worked, according to

UN aid helped extremists after Pakistan earthquake
The BBC has
discovered that one of the charities linked
with extremists is now using its position to gain access to orphaned or
fatherless children.
In the days
following the catastrophic earthquake, the
government of Pakistan promised that all such children would be looked
after either by their extended family or the state.
...He said they
had already sent 400 such children under
the age of nine to board at their madrassas, or religious schools, some
hundreds of miles from their homes.
...But at one of their
schools in the town of Mansehra -
set up initially with the help of the United Nations Children's Fund,
Unicef - primary children
were singing a song at morning assembly which
many might find disturbing.
It includes the
line: "When
people deny our
faith, ask them to convert and if they don't, destroy them utterly."
I asked the Jamaat
ud-Dawa spokesman, Abdullah Montazzer, why they were teaching such
bloodthirsty songs to young children.
"No, they weren't singing that,"
he said. "Lots of
infidels came in the aid effort and they weren't harmed. I don't
believe these kids were singing these kind of songs."
I put it to him
that virtually everyone I had spoken to in Pakistan said Jamaat and
Lashkar were the same thing.
"We are not at all a militant
organisation and we have no links with Lashkar at all."

Indonesian MP warns Aust not to
be 'silent enemy'
A delegation of visiting Indonesian
MPs has warned Australians of the dangers of becoming Indonesia's
silent enemy.
.....A member of the Indonesian
delegation, Yuddy Chrisnandi, told a forum in Melbourne last night that
Australia should practise sensitivity.
"Is Australia a good neighbour for
Indonesia, is Australia a true neighbour or is Australia just a silent
enemy," he said.
Yesterday
the United Nations (UN) cancelled a contract with an Indonesian
organisation founded by the cleric, which had been given food to
distribute to victims of the Yogyakarta earthquake.
The
Federal Government had lodged complaints with the UN's World Food
Program, after a spokesman for the organisation Majelis Mujahideen
Indonesia (MMI) revealed Bashir would hand out 95 tonnes of donated
food.
Mr Downer welcomed the UN's decision
to cancel the contract.
"A
spokesman for MMI has said that Abu Bakar Bashir himself will come and
distribute food - well, that would obviously be a great propaganda win
for a political extremist and the UN shouldn't be associated with
that," he said.
"It's good news that they clearly
don't want to be and that they've cancelled the arrangement."

The mystery of Malaysia's
tsunami aid

When the 26 December tsunami struck
countries around the Indian Ocean rim, Malaysia escaped largely
unscathed.
Protected from the main waves by the
Indonesian island of Sumatra, the country's death toll reached only 68.
Yet six
months on, some Malaysian villages hit by the tsunami are still
struggling to get back on their feet.
Some villagers say help has been slow
in coming, others say they have yet to receive any aid at all. And in some
cases, aid appears to have simply disappeared into a black hole.
......And by the standards of the
region, Malaysia is well off. Its income per capita is almost five
times that of Indonesia, and four times that of Sri Lanka.
Yet many are still waiting for help.
"The government promised us two
things," said Badaruddin: "$6,500 for those who lost fibreglass boats,
and $18,000 for those who lost wooden ones.
"But all we've been given is $250 for
fibreglass boats, and $800 for wooden boats."
Many of the villagers have left,
moved 1-2km inland to temporary accommodation provided by the
government.
.....But despite the
generosity of ordinary Malaysians who rushed to donate money, Abu
Hassan said none had been given to him. He has only
been offered a loan, and he has not even received all of that.
"I have already lost my boat and the
engine is under repair," he said. "They promised
me just over $6,000 to help put things right, but that's a
loan. I don't know how much of it I'm going to have to pay back
and it hasn't even all reached me yet."
......"But the problem is the people
who have been affected are not getting the aid. Somebody along
the middle line is not able to make that aid reach them."
That hints at what people privately
tell visitors over and over again, that somewhere along
the line middlemen are helping themselves to money meant for tsunami
victims.

CHARITABLE donations to help people
affected by the Asian tsunami disaster are falling into the hands of
radical Islamic groups linked to terrorists in Indonesia, a leading
expert on the global al-Qaeda network warned yesterday.
Relief money
had become the "primary source" of income for two militant groups,
including one founded by a Muslim cleric serving a prison sentence in
connection with the Bali bombing in 2002 in which more than 200 people
were killed.

UN troops 'traded gold for
guns'

Pakistani UN
peacekeeping troops have traded in gold and sold weapons to Congolese
militia groups they were meant to disarm, the BBC has learnt.
......The trading went on in 2005. A
UN investigative team sent to gather evidence was obstructed and
threatened.
The
team's report was buried by the UN itself to "avoid political fallout".
.....A UN investigation team arrived
in Mongbwalu in August 2006.
At first the Pakistani battalion
there cooperated with them. But when they attempted to seize a computer
with apparently incriminating documents on it a stand-off ensued.
Mongbwalu
The Pakistanis surrounded the UN
police accompanying the investigators with barbed wire and put two
armoured personnel carriers outside their living quarters at a nearby
Christian mission.
Thoroughly intimidated, the
investigators were airlifted out of Mongbwalu.
......When we put the allegations of
weapons trading to the head of the UN in Congo, Ambassador William
Swing, he
denied emphatically that any weapons have been handed by his troops to
the militia.
"This I can categorically deny.
What we
have done is just the opposite. We have demobilised more than
20,000. We have taken in caches of arms. We have destroyed arms. We
have done public burnings of these arms. And there is absolutely
nothing to that allegation."
He says that the investigation into
gold trading has yet to be completed.
The UN in New York has refused to
explain what took place or why, nearly two years after the allegations
first surfaced, the Congolese people have no idea what action - if any
- has been taken to discipline the Pakistani soldiers concerned.

Pakistani govt calls off
operation against jihadist mosque

In Pakistan, Islamabad's streets continue to remain tense even though an armed
operation by security forces against radical clerics at the
city's Lal Masjid has been called off for now.
......An angry President Musharraf reacted to the mosque's threats on
Monday, challenging
the mosque's calls for a jihad against the government, by saying
only the government can call for a jihad.
Surely General Musharraf, there are no....'radical clerics' in
ISLAM, or in Pakistan??...

Group cleared over Iran
murders

Iran's
Supreme Court has acquitted a group of men charged over a series of
gruesome killings in 2002, according to lawyers for the victims'
families.
The vigilantes were not guilty because their
victims were involved in un-Islamic activities, the court found.
The killers said they believed
Islam let them spill the blood of anyone engaged in illicit activities
if they issued two warnings to the victims.
The serial killings took place in
2002 in the south-eastern city of Kerman.
....The accused, who were all members of an
Islamic paramilitary force, told the court their understanding of the
teachings of one Islamic cleric allowed them to kill immoral people if
they had ignored two warnings to stop their bad behaviour.
But there was no judicial
process to determine the guilt of the victims in these cases.
The group even killed a young
couple they thought were involved in sex outside marriage, but
media reports say the couple were either married or engaged to be
married.
Lawyers for the victims' families say the Supreme Court has five times
overturned the verdict of a lower court that found all the men guilty
of murder.
Now the Supreme Court is
reported to have acquitted all the killers of the charge of murder on
the grounds that their victims were all morally corrupt.

MUSLIMS are often accused of not
speaking out sufficiently against terrorism. Nonie Darwish knows one
reason why: Their fellow
Muslims won't let them.
Darwish, who comes from Egypt and was
born and raised a Muslim, was set to tell
students at Brown University about the twisted hatred and radicalism
she grew to despise in her own culture. A campus Jewish group,
Hillel, had contacted her to speak there Thursday.
But the event was just called off.
Muslim students had complained that
Darwish was "too controversial." They insisted
she be denied a platform at Brown, and after contentious debate
Hillel agreed.
......From her childhood in the '50s, she's seen seething animosity
toward Jews, Israel, America and
non-believers generally pervert her culture. "I asked myself, as
a Muslim Arab child, was I ever
taught peace? The answer is no. We learned just the opposite: honor and pride
can only come from jihad and martyrdom."
In elementary schools in Gaza, where she lived until age 8, Darwish
learned "vengeance and retaliation. Peace," she
says, "was considered a sign of defeat and weakness."
An event in 1996 inflamed her longstanding frustration with her
community. Her brother
suffered a stroke while in Gaza, and his Egyptian friends and relatives
all agreed: To save his life, he needed to go to Hadassah hospital in
Jerusalem, not to Cairo.
Even though they had spent
their lives demeaning Israelis - and boasting of Arab supremacy.
Hadassah saved
her brother's life; understandably, her appreciation for Jews
and Israelis grew. Today Darwish preaches not only the almost
embarrassing lengths to which Jews go to seek dialogue and peace, but
also their cultural, political, scientific and economic contributions.

Gaza women warned of
immodesty

A hitherto unknown group calling
itself the
Just Swords of Islam issued a warning to Palestinian women in
the Gaza Strip over the weekend that they must wear the hijab or face
being targeted by the group's members.
In pamphlets distributed in various
parts of the Gaza Strip, the group also claimed responsibility for attacks on 12
Internet cafes over the past few days.
The warning was directed primarily
against female students in a number of universities and colleges who do
not cover their heads in line with Islamic tradition.
The group said its followers last
week threw acid at the face of a young woman who was dressed
"immodestly" in the center of Gaza City. They also destroyed a
car belonging to a young man who was playing his radio tape too loudly.
Addressing female students, the group
said: "We will have no mercy
on any woman who violates the traditions of Islam and who also hang out
in Internet cafes."
According to the group, its members used rocket-propelled grenades to
attack 12 Internet cafes and a number of music shops in
different parts of the Gaza Strip.
It said
the places were targeted because they were
"distracting an entire generation of Palestinians from their duty to
worship [Alla] and jihad so that they could serve their Zionist
masters and the Crusaders."
Hamas officials denied any connection to the
group, noting that their movement does not resort to methods of
"intimidation and terror" against the people.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip
reacted with mixed feelings to the group's threats. While many seemed
to support the demand that all women wear the hijab, others expressed fear that the
group was trying to create a Taliban-style regime.

of stirring up race hate, but

A website designer was found guilty
today of stirring up race hate during a march by Muslims protesting at
an anti-Islamic cartoon.
But the jury could not agree on a
second charge against Mizanur Rahman, 23, of inciting murder.
Rahman, who had denied both charges,
was remanded in custody while the prosecution decide on whether there

Melbourne 'terror group' in court
Thirteen men accused of belonging to a
terrorist cell that was plotting an attack on Australian soil have
pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
At a pre-trial hearing in Melbourne,
they each denied a variety of offences, including being part of a
terrorist group.
The men were among 18 suspects
arrested last year in co-ordinated raids in Melbourne and Sydney.
It was the largest counter-terrorism
operation staged in Australia.
At the time, police said a
"potentially catastrophic attack" had been averted.
